The world is at a tipping point, with many inter-connected crises: climate change, diminishing natural resources, biodiversity loss, accelerated urbanization, growing inequality and unprecedented changes in societies. It is at this juncture that structural changes, technological solutions and collective efforts can induce behavioral and mindset shifts.
The role of education in sparking behavioral changes and nurturing sensitive mindsets is critical. Like Maya Angelou, I believe, ‘when you know better, you do better’. The youngest generation are quite literally fighting tooth and nail to save their planet. With more awareness, comes more sensitivity and a feeling of ethical responsibility, as they become game changers and advocates of our cause.
The Education and Awareness Workshops conducted by HEAL are aimed at sensitizing young students about the incredible natural and cultural heritage around them. It helps them find relevance for their heritage and devise ways to embrace these amazing gifts in their lives.
Nature, Culture and Heritage in any society has a transformative potential to promote sustainable and inclusive development. Educational institutions are increasingly using resources from nature, heritage and traditional art for introducing dimensions of personal responsibility, respect for environment, peace and sustainable development.
We live on a Goldilocks planet, perfectly positioned with just the right atmospheric composition, and the distance from its stars, which together produces a temperature range conducive for life, water bodies and oxygen-enriched air. A culture of awareness, sensitivity, empathy, collaboration and sustainability among the young will go a long way in supporting our planetary equilibrium.
