Reviving Local Arts and Crafts

Reviving local arts and crafts to promote livelihoods and empower village communities is a HEAL priority. Eco-friendly and sustainable handicrafts are being crafted from raw material obtained at our firelines. Such as, the use of pine needles and grass for production of wall art, mats, baskets, bins, stationary and so on.

In the past, artist residencies and literary camps were held onsite at Auranya. The Lalit Kala Academy in collaboration with the Culture Department and Auranya organised a week-long residency for 31 artists in July 2022. The beautiful natural surroundings captivated the participants and offered immense inspiration for their artwork. The residency culminated with the celebration of Kargil Vijaya Diwas. The residencies faced disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, efforts are being made to reinstate the creative collaborations and support local artists in the region.
